ADAPTED 2nd Consortium Meeting

The ADAPTED consortium (pictured) met at Leiden University, NL on 25th and 26th of April 2017. The group discussed progress of the project to date, particularly the development of APOE gene edited iPS cell lines, where one set of cells is already available for use within the project and others will be available soon.

The partners were shown round the state-of-the-art metabolomics facility at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) where data will be generated for the project from the samples gathered. The partners also visited the Mimetas laboratories for a demonstration of the innovative Organ-on-a-Chip technology which is part of ADAPTED's strategy to develop physiologically-relevant cell models to investigate the function of APOE.

As well as updates from experts within the ADAPTED group, three specialists from outside the project were also invited. Prof Martin Hofmann-Apitius (Fraunhofer SCAI) talked about the AETIONOMY project and shared his expertise as part of a workshop with members of the ADAPTED group on data management and analysis. Dr Benjamin Schmid (Bioneer) from the EBiSC consortium presented the progress on the gene editing of iPSC lines to generate all APOE genotypes, as well as the first phenotypes. Dr Pieter Jelle Visser (Maastricht University) discussed the samples and data that could be available to ADAPTED through the EMIF project.
